Mastiffs usually have calm nature. If they are trained well, they never bite or show aggression toward any pet or people.

However, there are some mastiff breeds that are famous for their fierce nature and bite force. If these breeds aren’t trained well, they can become very aggressive.

In this post, I’ll be listing the 7 most naturally aggressive mastiff breeds.

1: Bandog

Bandogs are originally from the USA, they are a mix of an American Pit Bull Terrier or American Bulldog and a Neapolitan Mastiff or a Mastiff.

They rank number one on our list of most aggressive mastiffs as they are in fact one of the most aggressive dog breeds in the world.

Bandogs were bred for hunting, dog fighting, and guarding property purposes. The most amazing thing about them is that they have an insane bite force, they have a bite force of 730 PSI, just below Kangals (743 PSI)

Bandogs are not recommended for first-time owners and those who are looking for a friendly breed.

2: Kangals

Kangal

Kangals are also referred to as Turkish Mastiffs. This breed is well-known for its ferocity and incredible bite force. They have the strongest bite force in the dog world, measuring 743 PSI.

Kangals are not typical home pets because they do not recognize property boundaries and can be difficult to train.

A well-trained Kangal is an excellent guard dog who never shows anger toward people and enjoys spending time with its owners, although even a well-trained Kangal can be difficult to handle.

They don’t appreciate it when someone comes into their home without their consent. Intruders and burglars are terrified of them.

These enormous canines can weigh up to 60 kg (130lb) and stand up to 32 inches tall.

3: Cane Corso

Cane Corso is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful mastiff breeds. Apart from their fabulous look, they are very intelligent, noble, loyal, and strong dogs.

Early socialization and training are important for Cane Corso as untrained Cane Corso can become really aggressive and attack people and other dogs.

Unfortunately, this breed has been featured in many news but not for good reason. There have been many reports about the attacks done by Cane Corso.

According to a study, attacks by Cane Corsos have increased dramatically in recent years. Even a trained Cane Corso can attack pets and people, so this breed is definitely not recommended for first-time owners.

4: Tibetan Mastiff

Tibetan Mastiffs are an ancient breed, no one knows exactly when were Tibetan mastiffs bred, but Tibetan mastiffs have been mentioned in writings dating back to 1100 B.C.

According to some reports, they were first introduced to the Western world in 1847, and since then, Tibetan mastiffs have become really popular breed in the West.

However, Tibetan mastiffs are very costly, they can cost you around $2,000 to $18,000, plus they required a meat-based diet and many other expensive things. Only the rich can afford them.

Furthermore, they are very good guard dogs, polite, lovable, and loyal, but unfortunately, they have an aggressive side as well.

They don’t even fear the wolf, in fact, they try to dominate wolves.

A YouTube video explains the disposition of Tibetan mastiffs and describes the kind of dog they are in reality.

You can see in the video above how the Tibetan Mastiff ran for the Wolf and made every effort to dominate it, but the Tibetan Mastiff really struggled because Wolves are inherently better fighters.

5: Presa Canario

Presa Canario is from the Canary Islands, Spain; They were bred as a guard and livestock protector dogs.

This large-size dog breed is extremely brave and the most interesting thing about them is that they shed very less compared to some other Mastiff breeds.

Presa Canario can be aggressive toward other dogs and strangers, they must get proper training and socialization, otherwise, this dog breed can literally go out of your hands.

There have been many severe attacks caused by Presa Canario, in fact, according to a report, Presa Canarios are only behind Pit Bull, Rottweilers, and German Shepherds in terms of attacking people.

6: Dogo Argentino

Dogo Argentinos as the name suggests were bred in Argentina for guarding and hunting purposes.

Dogo Argentino is very muscular, tall, and strong dogs, they were used in Argentina to hunt animals such as wild boar and puma.

They are highly intelligent canines, and that makes them one of the most trainable dogs.

They can be a perfect guard and livestock protector dogs, but they have one big problem, they are aggressive.

Dogo Argentino doesn’t like it when a stranger tries to get close to them or tries to control them.

In 2012, a reporter made a mistake, she came too close to Dogo Argentino, even though the dog was looking calm and friendly at the beginning, and he was also with his owner, but when the TV anchor got too close to him, he bit her face.

You can watch that video on YT

7: Boerboel

Boerboel AKA South African mastiff is number seven on our list. Boerboel makes great guard dogs, they are lovely, gentle, and good with kids, but they are nightmares to intruders.

Boerboels are giants, they can weigh up to 150–200 lb, and they have a bite force of 450 PSI, enough to injure any human severely.

Untrained Boerboel can be really hard to control as this giant breed is an aggressive defender. If they sense any threat, they take action quickly and do their best to defend their owners.

Conclusion

Mastiffs usually have a calm nature, but some mastiff breeds are naturally more aggressive.

If you are looking for a family-friendly breed but have never owned a dog before, you should avoid breeds like Bandogs, Tibetan Mastiffs, Kangals, and Cane Corso since they can be quite challenging for inexperienced owners to manage.

Numerous attacks occur each year as a result of owner carelessness, which is why picking the right dog breed, socialization, and training are critical.
