When we look at a Cane Corso and a pitbull together, the size difference is huge, and most of us may conclude that a pitbull cannot fight and win against a Cane Corso.

But is it actually true? So, in this post, we’ll explore at what happens when a Pit goes one-on-one with a Cane Corso.

Let’s begin!

Can A Cane Corso Beat A Pitbull?

The answer is rather simple: no!

Cane corsos cannot defeat pitbulls, and I understand that many of you are questioning how this is possible given that cane corsos have more biting force and are bigger. However, the fight is decided by a variety of factors other than size and bite force.

Well, let me tell you something: I dislike writing without any facts or proof.

So, before writing this article, I spent hours researching and came across a video of two Cane Corsos attacking a pit bull.

Yes, you heard that right: two cane corsos versus one pitbull, and guess what happened? The Pitbull beat both Cane Corsos, forcing them to run for their lives.

The Pit Bull owner was convinced that his pit bull would win the fight, so he did not intervene.

However, when two Cane Corsos teamed up, he stabbed one of them, but Pitbull had already put both of them to the backfoot.

Size

Criteria Cane Corso (Male) Cane Corso (Female) Pit Bull (Male) Pit Bull (Female)
Height 25-27.5 inches (63.5-70 cm) 23.5-26 inches (60-66 cm) 18-21 inches (46-53 cm) 17-20 inches (43-51 cm)
Weight 99-110 pounds (45-50 kg) 88-99 pounds (40-45 kg) 35-60 pounds (16-27 kg) 30-50 pounds (14-23 kg)
Size Comparison

Cane Corsos are larger and appear more frightening than Pit Bulls. Corsos belong to the mastiff family, and mastiffs are generally bigger than other dog breeds.

Despite their large size, Cane Corsos are not slow; they are moderately energetic canines that can protect their homes from burglars.

Due to the size disparity, you may believe that Pits have no chance against them, but that’s not true at all.

Size does matter, but it’s not everything in a fight. Keep reading because there are additional aspects that influence a battle.

Genetics

Pit bulls are more genetically gifted than Cane Corsos. Sure, Cane Corsos are larger and have a more powerful bite, but Pitbulls are designed for fighting.

Their large, powerful head, muscular physique, and great gripping capability make them a genuine beast.

While Cane Corsos are extremely muscular too, their large bodies, powerful jaws, and massive heads make them genuine warriors.

However, when breeders developed Pits, they had only one goal in mind: to create a breed that no other dog breed could overcome.

Pit Bulls are just genetically superior, giving them an advantage over most other dogs, even Cane Corsos.

Courage

In terms of courage, these dogs are equivalent since, unlike many other dog breeds, Cane Corsos and pit bulls do not back down when they perceive a threat.

Whether it’s a tiger, lion, Wolf, or bear, both breeds are willing to battle and give their all.

So, if you want a dog breed that is particularly effective at guarding its owners, you can select between Pitbulls and Cane Corsos without thinking twice.

Bite Force

Criteria Pit Bull Cane Corso
Average Bite Force 235-250 psi (pounds per square inch) 700 psi (estimated)
Variability Can vary within the breed Can vary within the breed
Jaw Structure Strong, muscular jaw Strong, muscular jaw

The biting force is one of the most crucial factors in a fight; it can undoubtedly assist an animal win a fight.

A stronger bite will result in deeper cuts or wounds. Most of the dangerous predatory creatures that dominate the jungles have a powerful bite force.

Cane Corsos win this round because they have a considerably stronger biting force than Pitbulls, but how you use that tremendous bite force is more important than having a strong bite force.

Pitbulls have a weaker bite force than Cane Corsos, but they can bite and hold on for longer periods of time, as well as deliver repeated bites at a faster rate.

Aggression

Both breeds are extremely aggressive, however I would give Cane Corsos a tiny advantage here because some Pit Bull varieties are not naturally aggressive.

Aggression does not ensure victory in a fight, but it can occasionally scare the other animal away before the fight even begins, and it can also serve to demonstrate dominance.

Attitude

Pitbulls have a never-say-die mentality; you may have heard a story of a Pitbull who defeated many coyotes despite being gravely injured.

Cane Corsos are no joke either, but when it comes to battling till your last breath, they are no match for Pitbulls.

Pitbulls, particularly game-bred Pit Bulls, have one of the strongest mindsets. When a pitbull gets into a battle, they stay until the fight is over.

Energy Levels

Cane Corsos are huge dog breeds that belong to the mastiff family. Mastiffs are not recognized for their high energy levels. Mastiffs are also susceptible to joint issues and overheating.

They can be good hiking dogs, but they are not meant to be extremely energetic. They require adequate rest and modest exercise.

On the other side, Pit Bulls are high-energy dogs that may be trained to a high degree; in fact, they require a lot of exercise to be fit and healthy.

There are footage showing them jumping quite high and running extremely rapidly.

Their elevated energy levels can also help them fight with greater vigor.

A Cane Corso may become exhausted during a battle after a while, but a Pitbull does not get tired easily; they have incredible stamina.

Intelligence and Trainability

American Pit Bull Terriers, for example, are well-known for their intelligence. This intelligent breed enjoys learning and responds well to positive reinforcement.

While Cane Corsos are not dumb, they are rapid learners with eager-to-please attitudes, making training them easier than teaching other mastiff breeds.

Intelligence plays an important role in a fight since an intelligent dog knows just where to attack to win the fight faster; yet, the experience can also cause canines to learn a lot of things even if they are not very smart.

Both breeds have equal intelligence.

Final Words…

Pit Bulls are bred for fighting, and while Cane Corsos are powerful dogs, they cannot overcome a pit bull in a one-on-one fight.

In fact, we have video footage of a Pit Bull attacking a Cane Corso and making it flee for its life.

I hope you liked this post.
